Program Overview

The Honda Adventure Roads series brings together riders from around the world to explore some of the most spectacular riding destinations on the planet.

When Iceland was selected as the destination for the 2022 expedition, the initial concept focused largely on following the country’s well-known Ring Road, which circles the island.

However, Iceland’s true adventure lies far beyond the main highways. Working closely with the organizers, Amazing DMC Iceland helped reshape the program to focus on the country’s remote interior landscapes.

This change allowed the expedition to showcase Iceland in a far more authentic and adventurous way.

From Ring Road to Highland Adventure

Instead of staying on coastal roads, the itinerary was redesigned to lead riders deep into the Icelandic highlands, a vast wilderness known for volcanic deserts, glacier rivers, and remote mountain landscapes.

Accessible only during the summer months, these regions offer some of the most spectacular riding environments in Europe.

By bringing the expedition into these remote areas, the program delivered a far more immersive experience, allowing riders to test both their skills and their motorcycles in Iceland’s dramatic terrain.

Experiencing Iceland’s Remote Landscapes

The Icelandic highlands are one of Europe’s largest uninhabited wilderness areas. Black sand deserts stretch across the horizon, colorful rhyolite mountains rise from geothermal valleys, and glacier rivers cut through the landscape.

For the riders participating in the expedition, this environment provided the perfect setting for an unforgettable adventure.

Each day revealed new landscapes and new challenges, creating a journey that combined exploration, endurance, and discovery.

Expedition Highlights

The journey through Iceland’s highlands took riders across some of the country’s most spectacular and remote landscapes.

One of the highlights was riding through the volcanic terrain surrounding Mount Hekla, one of Iceland’s most powerful volcanoes. Nearby, riders experienced the dramatic beauty of Háifoss, one of Iceland’s tallest waterfalls, plunging deep into a rugged canyon.

The expedition then crossed the famous Kjölur Route, a historic mountain route connecting the south and north of the country. Along this remote track, riders spent a night in glamping tents surrounded by Iceland’s vast highland wilderness.

Further into the interior, the group explored the dramatic volcanic landscapes around Askja, one of Iceland’s most striking geological areas. The journey also passed through the remote desert region of Möðrudalsöræfi and near the iconic mountain Herðubreið, often referred to as the “Queen of Icelandic Mountains.”

Throughout the expedition, riders experienced one of the defining challenges of Icelandic highland travel — crossing glacier-fed rivers on their motorcycles, adding excitement and authenticity to the adventure.

 Logistics and Local Expertise

Operating an expedition in the Icelandic highlands requires extensive planning and experienced local support.

Weather conditions can change quickly, roads depend on seasonal access, and many routes require vehicles specifically designed for Iceland’s rugged terrain.

For this program, Amazing DMC Iceland worked closely with its sister company, which operates specially modified super trucks and super jeeps designed for Iceland’s highland environment.

These vehicles and experienced drivers provided the logistical backbone of the expedition, allowing riders to focus entirely on the adventure while the support team managed the complex terrain and conditions.

A Truly Unique Adventure

By shifting the focus from Iceland’s coastal highways to its remote interior landscapes, the program delivered a far more authentic adventure experience.

Participants were able to ride through landscapes rarely seen by international visitors while experiencing the raw beauty of Iceland’s wilderness.

For many riders, the journey through the Icelandic highlands became one of the most memorable motorcycle adventures they had ever undertaken.
