Creating a High-Impact Incentive Experience in Iceland

With 240 guests including staff, the program was designed to combine adventure, relaxation, and memorable shared experiences across Iceland’s landscapes. Reykjavík served as the base for the journey, with exclusive experiences ranging from unique welcome events and geothermal spa visits to adventurous exploration of Iceland’s iconic Golden Circle.

The highlight of the program was a dynamic Viking-themed evening experience, bringing Icelandic storytelling and entertainment together in an immersive setting that created lasting memories for the entire group.

Program Overview

Amazing DMC Iceland was selected by an international incentive agency to design and operate a two-night incentive travel program for 240 award-winning guests and staff visiting Iceland in late May.

The program celebrated the company’s top performers and aimed to deliver an experience unlike previous incentive trips by combining Iceland’s dramatic nature, unique cultural encounters, and memorable shared celebrations.

To create a seamless group experience, the program included a full buyout of Fosshótel Reykjavík, the largest hotel in Iceland with 230 rooms, allowing guests to enjoy the destination together in an exclusive setting.

Three Signature Experiences in Two Days

The program was designed around three major experiences, each showcasing a different side of Iceland while creating memorable moments for the entire group.

Aurora Basecamp Welcome Experience

The program began with a welcome lunch at Aurora Basecamp, an immersive venue inspired by the Northern Lights.

As the camp itself is designed for smaller groups, Amazing DMC expanded the venue footprint to accommodate all 240 guests. Black event tents, additional facilities, and custom catering stations were installed alongside atmospheric elements including fire artists and ice sculptures.

The result was a dramatic welcome setting where guests could begin their Iceland adventure surrounded by Iceland’s unique landscapes and a vibrant event atmosphere.

Blue Lagoon Evening and Lava Restaurant Buyout

Following the welcome event, guests continued to the iconic geothermal spa Blue Lagoon, where they enjoyed time to relax in the mineral-rich waters.

The evening continued with an exclusive buyout dinner at Lava Restaurant, offering guests a unique dining experience overlooking the surrounding lava fields.

Upon returning to the hotel, the celebration continued at the Beergarden where live music and Icelandic hospitality created a lively and relaxed welcome party atmosphere.

Viking Village Celebration at Ingólfsskáli

The second day concluded with a spectacular Viking village experience at Ingólfsskáli.

Rather than a traditional gala dinner, the venue was transformed into a fully immersive Viking environment where more than 25 Vikings welcomed guests and led interactive experiences including:

• Archery station
• Axe throwing station
• Blacksmith demonstrations
• Leather craft station
• Viking photo booth
• A Völva (Icelandic fortune teller)

Additional Viking tents and decorative elements were installed throughout the venue, including covered food stations and themed environments that brought Icelandic history to life.

Dinner was followed by live entertainment from the popular Icelandic band Gular Baunir, who quickly brought guests to the dance floor before the evening continued with a DJ set.

Upon returning to the hotel, the Beergarden reopened for those wishing to continue celebrating into the night.

Adventure Day Across Iceland

During the second day of the program, guests participated in one of eight adventure programs, pre-selected according to their interests and activity levels.

Each experience combined a signature Icelandic adventure with exploration of the famous Golden Circle.

Activities included:

• Whale watching and Golden Circle exploration
• Sustainability experience “Green Iceland” and Golden Circle
• Snorkeling between tectonic plates and Golden Circle
• River rafting and Golden Circle
• Horseback riding and Golden Circle
• Glacier snowmobiling and Golden Circle
• Mountain biking and Golden Circle
• ATV adventure and Golden Circle

During the day all groups also visited Þingvellir National Park, where guests met two Icelandic strongmen and enjoyed traditional Icelandic tastings.

The combination of storytelling, humor, and impressive demonstrations created a memorable cultural moment for the entire incentive group.

Operational Highlights

Delivering a program of this scale required careful planning and coordination.

Aurora Basecamp was expanded with additional event infrastructure to accommodate the large welcome experience, while the second day involved coordinating eight different activity programs across South Iceland.

Precise scheduling ensured that all groups arrived at Ingólfsskáli within a narrow time window, allowing the entire incentive group to reunite for the evening Viking celebration.
